What To Do When Someone Hits Your Parked Car
How to Resolve the Situation
No one likes getting into an accident, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. If you’re lucky, any damage will be minor, and your insurance will cover the repairs. But what do you do if you come back to your parked car and find that it’s been hit by another driver?
The Steps to Take
Getting hit by a car is never a fun experience, but it can be especially frustrating if you weren’t even driving at the time. If you’ve come back to your parked car and found that it’s been hit by another driver, don’t panic. Follow these steps, and you’ll be on your way to getting the situation resolved.
- First and foremost, check for any injuries. If you or anyone else involved in the accident is injured, call 911 immediately and wait for medical assistance.
- Once you’ve ensured that everyone is safe, exchange insurance information with the other driver if possible. If they’re not able to stick around, try to get their license plate number so you can file a police report.
- Take pictures of the damage to both vehicles as well as any other property that was damaged in the accident. This will be helpful when filing an insurance claim.
- Call your insurance company to report the accident and start the claims process. Depending on your insurance policy, they may send an adjuster to assess the damage or ask you to bring your car into a shop for an estimate.
- Get your car repaired and go about your life!
No one wants to get into an accident, but sometimes they’re unavoidable. If you do find yourself in this situation, follow these steps, and you’ll be on your way to getting everything sorted out. And remember, if anyone is injured in the accident, always call 911 first and foremost.
